Wind River Range Elkhart Park Trailhead Access Update: Accessible by 4WD

Current Access to Elkhart Park Trailhead:  Accessible by 4WD

May 12, 2012 Update

With the creek and river flows jumping up dramatically this past week, we took the chance to head up towards Elkhart Park again hoping for the best.  While the willows and aspens are tentatively putting out buds and Skyline Drive is mostly clear, snow is still covering the higher elevations and sadly easy access to the trailhead parking.

In the family mover, without four wheel drive, we were sadly forced to turn around at the last shade/snow covered section of Skyline Drive at ~9,300 feet, less than a mile from the Elkhart Park trailhead.  However, there were already several adventuresome folks parked in the pullouts leading up to our turnaround spot, so get your gear and get here to the Wind Rivers, they are open for business!
